"The study of asana is not about mastering posture.
It's about using posture to understand and transform yourself." - B.K.S. Iyengar

I want to introduce the concepts of Kundalini Yoga early on in our Program. Though it has cultural and spiritual traditions that many people connect to, my purpose to use it for stress is purely for the health benefits. The techniques in Kundalini Yoga can very quickly rewire your brain and help you let go of negative emotions with incredible speed. So much so that it must come with a fairly hefty warning.
Many people can be triggered to feel some overwhelming emotions while they practice this. I personally have not experienced this. I have only had amazing positive effects. BUT if you choose to introduce yourself to this practice, just be aware that if any time that you begin to feel overwhelmed, or negative in any way. Just stop, slow down, breathe, return to child's pose, walk around. There's nothing strange going on here, it's just that moving and breathing in this way has the ability to open up parts of your being that you may have been holding back for a long time.
So the work of healing the past, moving past stuck memories, emotions is to just GO SLOW. Write, journal, keep in close contact with me. It is very possible to heal yourself as you apply all the techniques/practices offered here. But not all at once. You just have to work one day at a time at one feeling at a time. Remember, you didn't arrive in the place you are today all at once.
"Your desire to bring light into your world ALWAYS outshines darkness you feel at any given moment"

So let's begin. Here's a quick intro to Kundalini, followed by a few key Kundalini moves that we will use in our Yoga and Meditation Sequences. I will only ever be adding a few Kundalini movements and breaths to the work I offer you here. If you wish to pursue a full Kundalini practice I will show you more resources to do so. My goal is to open up just enough so you can find that emotional "spot" where we can talk one on one about your personal journal to more health in your life. The Yoga and Meditation is meant to bring you to that "ah ha: moment where you yourself realize what it is you need to do in your life to move forward. I'm here to help you figure that out!

Breathe of Fire

Here are two short tutorials on how to do Breathe of Fire. I've heard so many different explanations on it and the best one I think is to imagine it like "panting like a dog", only with your mouth closed. This breath is THE single most powerful breath you can do in Kundalini Yoga and to improve your stamina and wellbeing.
Take your time learning it, practice it every day and work up to moving faster and for longer periods of time. The most important piece is RHYTHM and not speed. It's also important that each time you do it, you try for a little bit longer. Stretching out your belief in yourself and your capacity to face difficulty while balancing your nervous system. This will translate into every area of your daily life.
This breath is also very detoxifying. Give yourself time to relax after practising it, drink plenty of water. Don't plan heavy activities afterwards. Make sure you are not digesting food while you are practising it...empty tummy is best.
AND remember, don't do this if you are pregnant, having a heavy menstrual flow, close to surgery.
Take your time, but take on learning this breath like your life depends on it! :)

SPINAL FLEXES

I love how this feels. It is simple yet challenging to keep your form. I've heard it said, "A flexible spine is a flexible mind". We always want to consider that there are other options to solve our problems. We are never locked in, nothing is EVER final. If we can be curious enough, open enough and in tune enough we will find a way. Add this movement as a way to wake up in the morning or to help get that Kundalini energy moving from the base in your pelvis up your spine. Enjoy!
